Tornados Open Season at the Lenoir-Rhyne Southside Power and Fitness Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Track & Field team opened its 2019 season up over the weekend at the Lenoir-Rhyne Southside Power and Fitness Invitation. The Tornados competed in two days of events on Friday and Saturday. 

Overall, the Tornados saw six individuals reach personal bests at the event that featured competition from all around the southeast. 

The first day was highlighted by performances in the Men's 100-meter dash and the 1,500-meter run. BC's CJ Walton finished 12th at 11.31, while Jamerial Parks finished top-20 with an 11.49 at 16th.

Gavin Morgan paced the Tornados participants with a 4:26.25 time in the 1500 meter run, which was 25th in a deep field. 

On the Women's side, BC's Shakirah Thompson ran the 400-meter dash in 1:05.18, good enough for 14th.

Day two was highlighted by a solid showing for the Tornados in the 4x100 meter relay, as the group of Parks, Walton, Quentin Jackson, and Eddie Dean finished fifth.

Brevard will return to competition next weekend as it heads to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational from Thursday, March 21 to Friday, March 22.
