Tornados Travel to Bluegrass State

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard track and field team heads to Berea, Ky., this weekend to take part in the Atlantic Independent Track & Field Championships.

Two weeks ago, the Tornados completed the Catamount Classic with 10 finishes inside the top 30, including a 13th place outing by Michal Phillips in the triple jump in the final tune-up for the Brevard before the Atlantic Independent Track & Field Championships.

Phillips was the top men's finisher on the team after a leap of 40-feet and ½-inches. Teammate Dylan Bradley also enjoyed a top 20 outing, crossing the line of the men's 100 meter dash in a time of 11.10, placing 14th.

Joseph Roberts brought home a 17th place finish for the Tornados in the discus throw, following a heave of 103-feet, 11-inches. Roberts also had success in the shot put, placing 26th with a toss of 37-feet, ½-inches.

Joining Roberts as the only Brevard competitor with two top 30 outings was Quentin Jackson, who had a pair of 22nd place finishes in the 100 meter dash (11.38) and 200 meter dash (23.20).

Rhyanna Haden was the top women's finisher in the event, placing 23rd in the shot put with a toss of 32-feet, 4 3/4-inches. Joining her in the top 30 finishers for Brevard among the women was Mackenzie Lautenschlager, who crossed the line of the 100 meter hurdles in 19.29.
