Tornados Set for Montreat Invitational

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard track & field team will take part in its third event of the outdoor season on Friday and Saturday when it heads to Black Mountain to participate in the Montreat Invitational.

The Tornados have also taken part in the 49er Classic, hosted by Charlotte University, as well as the Adidas Winthrop Invitational this month.

Hassan Kiprono and Gabriel Covington posted a pair of top 30 finishes for the Brevard at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.

Kiprono finished 21st in both the 1500 meter (4:20.34) and 5000 meter (15:44.71) races. Meanwhile, Covington came through with solid outings in the shot put, where he finished 25th, and the discus, which resulted in a 28th place showing.

Brevard also collected three top 25 finishes in the men's 1500 developmental race, with Michael Anton leading the way with a 13th place outing in a time of 4:33.39. He was joined by teammates George Dowis (4:56.32) and Michael Terry (5:54.84), who finished 19th and 25th, respectively.

The top team performance for the Tornados was a 12th place outing (45.62) by the men's 4x100 meter relay unit that is composed of Quentin Jackson, Dylan Bradley, Martigus Henley and Ke'Vel Kingsberry.

Shakirah Thompson was the top women's finisher for the Tornados, crossing the line 39th in the 400 meter dash (1:07.48). She also finished 57th in the 200 meter dash (28.58).
