COMPLETE SOUTHERN INDOOR CLASSIC RESULTS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Six members of the Brevard track and field team earned top 10 finishes at the Southern Indoor Classic in the Birmingham CrossPlex on Monday afternoon.
Among those six top 10 finishers was Adam Spencer, who finished fourth in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.39. Joseph Roberts also put together a solid performance for the Tornados, finishing sixth in the shot put with a toss of 11.30 meters.
Kaitlin Chaump was the top female finisher on the afternoon, placing seventh in the one mile run as she crossed the line in a time of 6:15.11.
Two Tornado competitors, Molly Brown and Michal Phillips, placed ninth in the event in their respective categories. Brown crossed the line ninth in the one mile run (7:08.50), while Phillips leapt 11.50m in the triple jump event. Darius Newkirk rounded out top 10 individual finishers as he capped off the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.50 (10th).
Phillips also had a solid outing in the long jump, placing 11th with a mark of 5.55 meters, while Adam Spencer came through with a 12th place finish in the 400 meter dash in a time of 54.14.
Three Brevard competitors, including Orrlando Johnson, Quentin Jackson and Gabriel Covington came in 16th at the event. Johnson's was in the 60 meter dash (7.70), Jackson in the 200 meter dash (24.20 ) and Covington's came in the shot put (9.04 meters).
Like their counterpart's Brown and Chaump, George Dowis (5:16.14) and Michael Terry (6.27.24) put together a solid performance in the men's one mile run as they finished 17th and 18th, respectively. Meanwhile, Leejhai Wells (24.53 / 200 meter Dash) and Roberts (7.90 / 60 meter dash) capped off top 20 finishers for Brevard as they placed 19th and 20th, respectively.
The 200 meter dash brought home the final Brevard individual finishers on the afternoon in the form of Newkirk (25.01; 25th), Phillips (26.14; 27th) and Roberts (26.37; 28th).
Brevard will now begin preparation for the 49er Classic, set to take place in Charlotte on Friday, March 16th and Saturday, March 17th.
