Southern Indoor Challenge Awaits Track & Field

Meet Information

BREVARD, N.C. –
The Brevard track and field teams make their way to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend to compete in the 2018 Southern Indoor Challenge.

The event, hosted by the Southern Athletic Association, will be held in the Birmingham CrossPlex, which includes a 200 meter hydraulically banked track designed by Mondo that is only one of seven in the United States and one of ten in the world. With the touch of a button the state of the art six lane oval track takes just two minutes to raise or lower for banked corners.

The CrossPlex has served as the host for the NCAA Division I National Championship (2016), NCAA Division II National Championship (2013, 2015 & 2017) and as an NCAA Qualifying Event.

Brevard returns to action after participating in the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 30, where the Tornados took part in 16 events over the course of the day.

The team of Molly Brown, Hannah Spear, Courtney Perkins and Kaitlin Chaump led the Tornados to their best finish of the afternoon, placing sixth place in the women's distance medley with a time of 16:19.38. The top men's finish also came in the distance medley from the team comprised of George Dowis, Leejhai Wells, Adam Spencer and Michael Anton. That unit crossed the line in 12:13.51 as they finished 11th.

Multiple programs from the USA South Conference will be attending and participating in the Southern Indoor Challenge.
