Tornados Conclude Home Slate Thursday

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard softball team puts the finishing touches on its 2018 home schedule on Thursday afternoon when the Tornados play host to North Greenville in a doubleheader set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Field.

The Tornados (10-16), returning to action for the first time since April 10, are looking to match a four-game winning streak that took place in early March that included triumphs over Mary Washington, Penn State-Abington and Berea twice. The recent winning streak began when Brevard came away with 7-4 and 16-3 (six innings) victories at Agnes Scott.

Brevard was led in the first game by the bats of Emily White (1-2, 2 RBI, double, run), Sara Lallier (2-5, RBI, double, 2 runs), Jordan Hawk (1-4, 2 RBI, double, run), Brittan Miller (2-4, RBI) and Ricki Kuhn (2-4). The Tornados tallied seven runs on 11 hits and took advantage of four Agnes Scott (5-26) errors along the way to the win.

Breanna Allen tossed 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk, before giving way to Kuhn. Kuhn (6-10) picked up the victory after scattering three hits and allowing one run over the next 4.2 innings.

The Tornados continued swing the hot bat in the second game as five players finished with multiple hits, including Emily White (4-5, 4 RBI, 2 runs, double) and Teegan Bullock (3-5, RBI, 3 runs). Teammate Ricki Kuhn (7-10) notched her second win of the day, hurling five innings, allowing four hits, one run and one walk in 58 pitches.

North Greenville (24-12) will be playing its 10th straight road game in Brevard on Thursday, winning their last four straight at Barton and Mount Olive on April 13 and 14, respectively. The Crusaders are in action on Wednesday when they take on Lees-McRae in a doubleheader.

Heading into the Wednesday's action, North Greenville has five players with at least a .300 batting average including Jaelin Griffin, who leads the way with a .346 batting average after connecting on 37 hits in 107 at-bats. Griffin also is tops in doubles (10), RBI (21) and slugging percentage (.495).

Leading the way for the Crusaders on the mound is Amanda Coffrin, who owns a 0.92 ERA and a 17-3 mark. Coffrin has logged 129.2 innings, allowing 79 hits, 21 runs, 17 earned runs and has converted 116 strikeouts along the way.
