Tornados Complete Season Sweep of Agnes Scott

DECATUR, Ga. – The Brevard softball team completed the season sweep of Agnes Scott on Tuesday after the Tornados claimed a 7-4 win the first game and followed with a 16-3 victory in the second game, winning all four games of the season between the two units.

Brevard (10-16) was led in the first game by the bats of Emily White (1-2, 2 RBI, double, run), Sara Lallier (2-5, RBI, double, 2 runs), Jordan Hawk (1-4, 2 RBI, double, run), Brittan Miller (2-4, RBI) and Ricki Kuhn (2-4). The Tornados tallied seven runs on 11 hits and took advantage of four Agnes Scott (5-26) errors along the way to the win.

Breanna Allen tossed 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk, before giving way to Kuhn. Kuhn (6-10) picked up the victory after scattering three hits and allowing one run over the next 4.2 innings.

Brevard grabbed the early lead after Lallier reached base with a leadoff double. Two batters later, with Lallier at third, White flied to centerfield to plate the game's first run.

Knotted at one-all after a Scotties run in the home half of the first, Lallier again proved to be the difference this time with a single to right field. Two batters later, White came through with a clutch double to right centerfield, plating Lallier for the 2-1 Brevard lead.

Agnes Scott answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, assuming the 3-2 advantage, but the Tornados drew even in the sixth. Laurie Lloyd sent a single past third base and Miller followed with a double into left center to put runners on the corners. Lallier grounded out to short, but it was enough to allow Lloyd to score the tying run from third.

Brevard put the game out of reach in the seventh after White reached on a fielding error at third. A second error at third allowed Amber Hong to reach base, moving White to second. Pinch hitter Olivia Pauldin roped a single through the left side of the infield, advancing to second on the throw, as White scored the go-ahead run and Hong slid into third.

Hawk continued the inning with a double through the right side of the infield, scoring Hong and Pauldin in succession to stretch the Brevard lead to 6-3. Two batters later, with Hawk at third following a sacrifice bunt by Olivia Presley, Miller's double to centerfield scored Hawk for the final Tornado run of the game. Agnes Scott added one run in the home half of the frame, but Brevard earned the three-run win.

GAME 2: BREVARD 16, AGNES SCOTT 3 (6 innings)

The Tornados continued swing the hot bat in the second game as five players finished with multiple hits, including Emily White (4-5, 4 RBI, 2 runs, double) and Teegan Bullock (3-5, RBI, 3 runs). Teammate Ricki Kuhn (7-10) notched her second win of the day, hurling five innings, allowing four hits, one run and one walk in 58 pitches.

Agnes Scott grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the home half of the first and maintained that edge until the top of the fourth. It was there that Bullock got the bats rolling with a bunt single before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error. Kuhn dropped a single into left center, scoring Bullock from third for the first Tornado run.

Two batters later, with Hong at first and Kuhn at second, a double steal was followed by a single to left centerfield by Paige Atkison that resulted in a 3-1 Brevard lead.

Brevard had its second multi-run inning of the game in the fifth, scoring four runs. Sara Lallier opened with a single through the left side of the infield and advanced to second on a bunt single by Bullock. A wild pitch advanced the runners one base each and White drove a double to left centerfield to clear the bases and give the Tornados a 5-1 advantage.

A pitching change did not alter the course of the game for the Scotties as Amber Hong singled to left field and advanced to second on the throw to move White to third. Atkison extended the lead with a single to right field, scoring both White and Hong in the process, as the Brevard lead reached 7-1.

After keeping the Scotties scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, Brevard exploded for nine runs in the top of the sixth to move in front 16-1. The first run of the sixth came in the form of Brittan Miller, who crossed the plate on a single to center field by White. White and Bullock, who reached on a fielding error at second, both came home two batters later when Kuhn reached base and advanced to third following a fielding error in centerfield.

Jurnee Bennett pinch hit for Amber Hong and singled through the left side of the infield, plating Kuhn from third. Elizabeth Traxler followed with a single of her own, moving Bennett to second, as the pair advanced once following a ground out by Laurie Lloyd.

Brittany Franks was responsible for the next two Brevard runs, which came via Traxler and Bennett, as she reached base on a single and advance to second on the throw. Two batters later, with two outs and runners on second and third, Bullock drove a single to center field that scored pinch hitter Logan Baker for the eighth run of the inning.

White quickly followed with a single through the left side of the infield, brining Lallier home from third, to tally the final run of the game for the Tornados. Agnes Scott added two runs in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough to challenge Brevard.

Brevard established its single-game season highs in runs (16), hits (17), RBI (13) and tied for the most total bases (18) in the victory.

Brevard returns to action on Sunday, April 15, when the Tornados head to Montreat for a doubleheader against the Cavaliers that begins at 2 p.m.
