Tornados Sweep Agnes Scott on Senior Day

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard softball team snapped a 10-game losing streak on Friday afternoon when it earned a pair of five inning victories over Agnes Scott by 9-1 and 8-0 at Ives-Lemel Field on Senior Day.

Alexei Young delivered a one-out double down the left field line and trotted home on a grounder back to the pitcher by Cecilia Siegel, giving Agnes Scott the early 1-0 lead in the first game.

Brevard got its offense rolling in the home half of the first when Emily White doubled to left and scored Sara Lalier to plate the first Tornado run. Ricki Kuhn followed with a grounder to second, scoring White in the process, to forge Brevard in front 2-1.

The Tornados tacked on three runs in the fourth after Jordan Hawk drew a two-out walk to keep the inning alive. Hawk stole second and Teegan Bullock drove a single into left field, putting runners on the corners.

Amber Hong delivered a clutch single to left field, scoring Hawk and Bullock, as Brevard established a 4-1 advantage. Olivia Presley singled to third base, advancing to second on a throwing error, which allowed Hong to score the fifth Tornado run of the contest.

The Brevard offense remained hot in the fifth when Brittan Miller drew a leadoff walk and quickly stole second. Emily White singled to centerfield, moving to second on the throw, as Miller slid into third.

Two batters later, Paige Atkison laid down a bunt single that scored both White and Miller for the 7-1 lead. Bullock continued to swing the hot bat, singling up the middle to move pinch runner Caitlyn Cloud-Morton to third before stealing second, setting the table for Hong.

Hong doubled into left field, scoring Bullock and Cloud-Morton on the play, giving Brevard the eight-run win.

Hong finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while driving in four RBI and scoring one run. Joining her with multiple hits for the Tornados were White (2-3, RBI, two runs) and Bullock (2-3, two runs).

Brevard's Breanna Allen (3-5) earned the victory after limiting the Scotties' to two hits, one run and three walks as she struck out four Agnes Scott batters.

GAME 2: BREVARD 8, AGNES SCOTT 0

Tornado hurler Ricki Kuhn allowed just one hit over five innings and struck out five Agnes Scott hitters as Brevard earned its first shutout (8-0) since downing Converse 3-0 on April 21, 2016 in the second game.

Kuhn, who surrendered a hit to the number two batter in the Scotties lineup—Tiara White—in the first inning, was also key at the plate as she finished 3-of-3 with three RBI and one run. She was joined in multiple hits by Emily White, who capped off the game by hitting 2-for-3 with one run.

Brevard provided its junior pitcher run support early by scoring three runs in the first inning. Brittan Miller got things rolling with a single through the left side and White followed with a double to left for the 1-0 lead.

Kuhn reached base on a bunt single, scoring White in the process, before stealing second. Two batters later, Amber Hong single through the left side of the infield to plate Kuhn for the Tornado's third run of the game.

Teegan Bullock kept the Brevard offense on track in the second with a leadoff single. Two batters later, with Bullock at third, Sara Lalier belted a home run over the left field fence for a 5-0 advantage.

Franks kept the second inning going with a single to third, advancing to second on a fielding error at short. Miller followed with a walk, forcing the Scotties to make a pitching change, and Kuhn slapped a single into left that plated Franks for the third run of the inning.

The Tornados came through with their third multi-run inning of the game in the fourth when Lalier reached base on a walk. A sacrifice bunt followed by a stolen base moved Lalier to third, who came home when White singled into right centerfield.

Kuhn provided additional run support to her own effort with a double to left center, scoring pinch runner Caitlyn Cloud-Morton from first for the final run of the game.

Brevard returns to the diamond on Saturday afternoon to face Wesleyan at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
