BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Climbing team will look to begin another successful season under Head Coach Travis Gray as host of a USA Climbing Appalachian Region competition on Saturday, October 27 at Brevard Rock Gym.
The 'Crushers' will host the first of two home events for the 2018-19 season in the locally sanctioned event at Brevard's home venue at the Brevard Rock Gym (240 South Broad Street).
Coach Gray is excited for the upcoming season, BC's third as a varsity program. This year marks the first time that the BC Tornados Climbing team hosts two events, one in the fall and one in the spring.
"We are very fortunate to have such a great community here in Brevard that rallies together to support our team and to make these events possible," commented Coach Gray. "Most notably we would like to thank the wonderful staff of Brevard Rock Gym and the talented group of route setters they bring in who have become renowned for creating some of the best bouldering routes in Western North Carolina."
"Our main goal for hosting is for all the competitors to continue to walk away from our competitions with smiles on their faces and the motivation to make the bi-annual trip to Brevard Rock Gym to compete, hang out and share their passions for climbing with us. If this happens, we'll know that it was a successful event."
Event Details: This USA Climbing Collegiate Appalachian Region Locally Sanctioned Competition is set to commence on Saturday, Oct. 27. Registration will be at 1:30 p.m. with competition being from 2-5 p.m. The competition will be in Redpoint Bouldering Competition format and climbers will need to be current students at a college or university and hold a USA Climbing "Collegiate Membership" and/or USA Climbing "Introductory Membership." The cost of competing is $20 per climber, and there is no pre-registration available. The Brevard Rock Gym is located at 240 S Broad St suite b, Brevard, NC 28712. Parking will be available on the Campus of Brevard College, which is half a mile walk from the rock gym. Roads will be closed downtown Brevard due to the annual Halloween festival.
