Brevard Crushers set for Competition at Western Carolina

BREVARD, N.C.- After hosting the second annual Boulder Bash on Jan. 20th, the Brevard rock climbers will travel to Cullowhee for the Rock and Rumble Competition hosted by Western Carolina this weekend.

In the last competition in Brevard, senior Jordan Haak and sophomore Will Christiansen placed in the top 10 out of 27 male climbers in the bouldering competition. On the women's side of the competition, sophomore Caroline Safford placed seventh overall the Boulder Bash.

Safford, who climbed in her first competition of the season on Jan. 20th, reflects on her first collegiate competition a year ago, in Cullowhee.

"The Western Carolina University competition was my very first rock climbing competition, so I am looking forward to seeing how much I have improved since my first competition," says Safford.

As far as improvements go, sophomore Taylor Everard says the team has been working hard over the past month to prepare for the competition this weekend.

"We have all been training hard between the last competition and now which will make everyone on the team perform better at WCU," says Everard. "Improvements I see in myself going into this competition include climbing harder and having a more confident head space on the wall."

This will be the last competition before the regional championship in Nashville, Tenn. on March 24th.
