BOONE, N.C.- The Brevard rock climbing team had a successful weekend at the Southern Comfort XX event in Boone last Saturday.
Brevard had climbers ranked in the top ten in all three categories held at the event (recreational, intermediate, advanced), with Lauren Fowler taking sixth place out of 30 female climbers and Ben Lawson placing in the top three in his respective category of his first collegiate event.
Climbing coach Travis Gray said the event was a good indicator of where the team stands this early in the season.
"This was a great event to see where we stack up against other teams in the region," said Gray. "We look forward to taking what we learned here and applying it to the next climbing competition."
The BC Crushers will participate in the first USA Climbing Appalachian competition on December 2 when the team travels to Nashville, Tenn. to take on host Belmont and other surrounding schools in the region.
