Tornados Cruise for Conference Triumph over Maryville, 7-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Brevard College (2-5, 2-3 USAS) earned its second victory of the season, defeating host Maryville College (1-3, 1-3 USAS) at Tyson Park on Sunday evening in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Tornados claimed a pair of doubles victories and 5-of-6 singles matches en route to the 7-2 team triumph.

BC's Miles Schafer and Andrew Ingram paired up to claim an 8-6 victory in number-two doubles, while Alex Glaze and JaMarcus Walker earned their number-three singles win by default. BC's number-one doubles duo of Ethan McGee and Devin Horton fell in a close, 8-6 decision, as the Tornados took a 2-1 advantage into singles action.

McGee earned a 6-4, 6-3 triumph in the top-flight singles match, while Glaze and Walker both won thrilling matches in the no. 3 and 4 spots for the Tornados. Walker won the first set, 6-4, before a 6-3 defeat in set number two to set up the deciding third set that the sophomore from Seneca, South Carolina claimed in impressive, 10-8 fashion. Glaze, a junior from Columbia, South Carolina, swept his singles match, winning the first set 6-3 before a 7-6 second-set win that included an 8-6 tiebreaker victory. Schafer and Hunter Williams each won their singles matches by default, as BC wrapped up its 7-2 team conference win.

The Tornados are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 14 when BC travels to LaGrange, Georgia for a doubleheader vs. LaGrange College at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
