BC Alumni Hengst, Mittring Awarded ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete Awards

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College Men's Tennis alumni Tim Hengst and Tom Mittring were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday, garnering a selection as ITA All-Academic Scholar Athletes.

Hengst and Mittring, who finished their record-breaking playing careers at Brevard College in the Spring, add this latest ITA selection to a laundry list of awards and accolades garnered during their four-plus seasons as Tornado student-athletes.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria:

1.) be a varsity letter winner,

2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and

3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

With this year's All-Academic Scholar-Athlete selection, Hengst now becomes BC's first three-time ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete selection, as he garnered the honors in 2016 and 2017. Mittring has now been honored twice by the ITA, as the Bavaria, Germany native was honored back in 2016.
