Four Tornados Awarded USA South Men’s Tennis Honors Following Impressive Season

BREVARD, N.C. – The USA South Conference on Thursday announced its All-Conference and All-Sportsmanship awards, choosing seniors Tom Mittring, Tim Hengst, and Nathan Boepple along with freshman Tyler Frazee for postseason honors.

Mittring and Hengst both made the USA South Men's Tennis All-Conference First Team along with being selected as First Team West Division selections. Frazee was named to the First Team West Division as well, with Boepple being placed on the All-Sportsmanship team.

Mittring, a senior from Bavaria, Germany, concluded his career with the Tornados by going a perfect 14-0 at the top flight in singles play while extending his program-best win streak to 24 matches. Mittring cruised through conference play with a perfect 9-0 record, with all nine victories coming at no. 1 singles. Mittring went 12-2 overall in doubles play, with 11 wins coming from pairing up with teammate and fellow All-Conference First Team selection Hengst. Mittring and Hengst teamed up for an impressive 7-1 doubles record at no. 1 doubles in USA South play and ended their careers together on a seven-match doubles win streak. Mittring was selected as the USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week three times over the course of the 2019 campaign.

Hengst, a senior from Menden, Germany, ends his playing career with the Tornados after accruing 15 singles wins, which is tied for first on the team. Hengst went 12-2 in no. 2 singles play while going 3-1 at the no. 1 spot for a 15-3 overall record. The senior went a perfect 12-0 in USA South singles play and ended his career with a staggering 14-match singles win streak. Hengst was named USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week on April 15.

Frazee, a freshman from Tampa, Fla., earned a bid on the First Team West Division after a banner rookie season for the Tornados. A four-time USA South Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week, Frazee concluded his freshman season on a 14-match singles win streak and tied with Hengst for the most singles wins on the team (15). The freshman was one of three Tornados to have a perfect record in conference singles play (12-0) and also claimed 10 doubles wins with various partners.

Boepple, a senior from Clover, S.C., earned the All-Sportsmanship nod after serving as a key contributor for the Tornados throughout the 2018-19 season. Boepple racked up four singles wins, three of which coming in USA South play, along with three doubles victories.
