Tornados Take Impressive 5-4 Match vs Huntingdon

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Men's Tennis team (4-8, 2-4 USAS) earned its second conference victory of 2018-19 by defeating the visiting Huntingdon Hawks (5-7, 3-4 USA), 5-4, on Saturday at the McCoy Tennis Complex. 

The Tornados claimed the victory despite having to forfeit no. 3 doubles, no. 5 singles, and no. 6 singles. 

Senior Tom Mittring added another win to his illustrious singles winning streak that now spans over 20 matches. Mittring defeated Mark Melchor in no. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, improving to an undefeated 10-0 on the season. 

Fellow senior Tim Hengst also cruised to a singles win in the no. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-0, marking his third-straight singles victory. Hengst holds a 9-3 record in singles action this season and has won nine out of his last 10 singles matches. 

Two-time USA South Freshman of the Week Tyler Frazee earned his third-straight singles win in a match-clinching, 6-1, 6-2 win in no. 3 singles over Carson Sands. Frazee is also 9-3 on the season in singles play and has also won nine out of his last 10 matches. 

Mittring and freshman Andrew Ingram teamed up in no. 2 doubles for the first time to earn a thrilling 8-7 victory that was decided via tiebreaker, 7-5 in favor of Brevard. 

Hengst and Frazee earned their first victory as a doubles pair in dominant fashion, 8-0 in no. 1 doubles. 

The Tornados are set for a USA South rematch on Sunday, March 31 versus Berea at the McCoy Tennis Complex that will begin at 1 p.m.
