Tornados Fall Just Short in Tight Contest at Berea

BEREA, Ky. - The Brevard Men's Tennis team fell just short in a 5-4 defeat to USA South Conference rival Berea on Saturday afternoon at the Wilson Evans Tennis Complex in Berea, Kentucky.

The Tornados earned wins in number one and number two doubles and singles, however, lost the team competition with losses in no. 3 and 4 singles as well as two walkover defeats. 
 
Brevard started the day off strong with wins in number one and two doubles.  BC's number one doubles team of Tim Hengst and Nathan Boepple won a tight 8-7 match over Berea's Michael Malpartida and Dakota Massucco. 
 
In number two doubles, the Tornados cruised to victory as the team of Tyler Frazee and Andrew Ingram defeated Jose Ignacio-Perez and Juan Chavez-Casiano 8-2.
 
Berea won no. 3 doubles due to forfeit, thus Brevard took a 2-1 lead into singles play.
 
Hengst was dominant in number one singles for the Tornados blanking Malpartida 6-0, 6-0.  Frazee followed suit with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ignacio-Perez in no. 2 singles.
 
With Berea winning no. 5 singles with a 6-0, 7-6 win by James Weaver over Alex Glaze, the match came down to no. 3 and no. 4 singles.
 
In number four singles, Brevard's Ingram faced off against Sam Slater of Berea. Slater won the first set 7-6 before Ingram dominated the second set 6-0.  Slater then rebounded in the third set with a 6-2 win to take the match.
 
Number three singles were even more closely contested as Boepple took on Massucco. Boepple and Massucco battled back and forth in the first set with the home player eventually winning 7-6.  Boepple then won the second set in impressive 6-2 fashion. The final set ended with Boepple fighting off four match points before Massucco eventually earned the 6-4 win to take the match.
 
The Brevard College Men's Tennis team returns to action on Wednesday with a home conference match vs. Maryville scheduled for 1 p.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
