Tom Mittring Extends Singles Win Streak to 14 Matches in 6-3 Setback to Covenant

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Despite adverse weather conditions, the Brevard College Tornados Men's Tennis team (0-5, 0-2 USAS) was able to play its road USA South Conference matchup against Covenant College (3-4, 3-1 USAS) at an indoor facility at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Tornados fell 6-3 to their counterparts from Lookout Mountain, Ga. 

Mittring pushed his impressive singles win streak up to 14 matches, defeating Covenant's Logan Hull in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4.

Senior Tim Hengst and freshman Tyler Frazee also picked up singles wins on the evening. Hengst cruised in No. 2 singles play, trumping the Scots' Paxton Haggerty, 6-1, 6-1. Frazee picked up a No. 3 singles victory against Covenant freshman Ben Luke, 6-3, 6-1. 

The Scots took all three points on the doubles side highlighted by a tight 8-7 decision in the No. 1 doubles draw. BC's Mittring and Hengst squared off with Covenant's Haggerty & Trey Wood, playing to a 7-7 tie before the Scots took the victory, winning the tiebreaker 7-3.

Covenant was able to secure victories in No. 2 and 3 doubles, followed by wins in No. 4-6 singles to claim the 6-3 conference victory over the Tornados. 

BC returns to home action at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 as it faces off with Spartanburg Methodist College.
