Brevard Tennis Wraps Up Season Sunday Versus Berea

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's tennis team looks to complete its season sweep of visiting Berea on Sunday when the two teams clash at the Brevard Tennis Center at 12 p.m.

The Tornados, who have split their last four matches with victories over Maryville and Huntingdon, are set to hold Senior Day festivities prior to the match with Berea.

Brevard notched its first win of the season against the Mountaineers on Feb. 25 with a decisive 9-0 victory. The doubles tandem of Tim Hengst and Tom Mittring got the Tornados off to a great start with an 8-1 win over Dakota Massucco and Mike Malpartida. That was quickly followed by a victory by the team of Will Christiansen and David Bumgarner, who downed Brandon Mitchell and James Weaver 8-1.

The third Brevard point came by virtue of the first doubles win for Florian Peyssonneaux and Jaume Reig, who triumphed over Sam Slater and Evan Day by an 8-2 margin.

Mittring added his second win of the day in singles action as he made quick work of fellow No. 1 seed Massucco by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Brevard cinched the match victory when Christiansen downed Mitchell by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Hengst provided the Tornados with their sixth point of the match as he defeated Malpartida from the second seed.

Bumgarner continued to add points for Brevard, collecting a 6-1, 6-0 win over Slater in a clash of fifth seeds. That was followed by the first collegiate singles win by Reig, who downed James Weaver 6-3, 6-3. Peyssonneaux closed out the match with the first win of his singles career as he bested Day 6-3, 6-1.

The Mountaineers are still in search of their first team win of the season, winning two singles and a doubles match over the course of the season.
