Men’s Tennis Closes March With Win

BREVARD, N.C. –
The Brevard men's tennis team closed out the month of March with its fourth win in its last six matches after earning a 6-3 victory over Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon.

The Tornados picked up the first point of the match when the doubles tandem of Tim Hengst and Tom Mittring put together a dominating 8-1 performance against Bailey Burns and Ben Marler. However, Hungtingdon bounced back with a win by Adam Self and Mark Melchor, who completed an 8-3 win over Will Christiansen and David Bumgarner.

The duo of Anajala Chandrasoma and Trevor Berry provided the Hawks with an 8-1 win over Florian Peyssonneaux and Jaume Reig, giving Huntingdon a 2-1 advantage on the scoreboard.

Mittring extended his win streak in singles matches to eight consecutive, picking up his second win of the afternoon in the process, as he downed Burns 6-0, 6-1. Christiansen earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Melchor to help Brevard regain the team lead, 3-2.

Kevaughnte Merrion closed out a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Nathan Boepple in the clash of No. 6 seeds, knotting the match at three-all.

Brevard answered the challenge with a triumph by Hengst, who completed a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 win against Self. Bumgarner clinched the team with a hard fought 7-6, 7-5 win against Berry and Reig added the sixth Tornado point of the match as he downed Chandrasoma by a 6-4, 6-2 margin.
