Tornados Easily Dispose of Johnson C. Smith

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's tennis team picked up its second win in as many matches when it earned a 7-2 victory over Johnson C. Smith on Wednesday afternoon at the Brevard Tennis Center.

The Tornados claimed two of the three points in doubles action, beginning with an 8-2 triumph by David Bumgarner and Will Christiansen against the duo of Cameron Hyman and Eric Lopez. Shortly thereafter, Brevard picked up its second point with an 8-3 win by the tandem of Tim Hengst and Tom Mittring over Marlowe Anderson and Desire Johnson.

Johnson C. Smith closed out the doubles matches with an 8-3 victory by Gerald Miller and Anthony Jefferson over the combination of Florian Peyssonneaux and Jaume Reig.

Christiansen opened singles competition with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Miller which was followed by a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Hengst over Hyman. Anderson answered with a 6-1, 6-3 victory by Johnson C. Smith as he downed Peyssonneaux, trimming the team lead to 4-2.

Mittring got Brevard back on track with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Johnson in the clash of No. 1 seeds, winning the decisive point in the match. Bumgarner picked up the sixth point for the Tornados as he completed a win against Jefferson by scores of 3-6, 6-2 and 7-5. Reig claimed the final point of the afternoon for Brevard with a 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 win against Lopez.

The Tornados return to action on March 24 when they head to Covenant for an 11 a.m. match.
