Tornado Men’s Tennis Prepare for Clash With Covenant

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's tennis team will clash with Covenant on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club due to impending weather in the Brevard area.

The Tornados are looking to return to the win column after setbacks in their last three matches to Piedmont (9-0), Huntingdon (5-4) and LaGrange (7-2).

In Sunday's match against LaGrange, the Tornados collected points in both singles and doubles play from Tom Mittring. Mittring and his doubles partner Tim Hengst posted an 8-3 win against Mitchell Corley and Alan Valdez.

Mittring picked up his second win of the day and tallied a team point for Brevard when he completed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Corley in singles action.

Covenant comes into the match with a 6-1 record winning its last five straight including a 9-0 triumph over Berea (March 3) and an 8-1 win against Huntingdon (Feb. 24).

It is the longest winning streak for Covenant (6-1, 3-0 USA South) since the Scots won six straight in 2009. The victory also pushed Covenant's conference regular season win streak to eight dating back to last season.
