Mittring Earns Two Wins Versus LaGrange

LaGRANGE, Ga. –
The Brevard men's tennis team, competing in its second match in as many days, suffered a 7-2 setback to LaGrange on Sunday afternoon.

Brevard collected points in both singles and doubles play, garnering an 8-3 win by the doubles action via the duo of Tom Mittring and Tim Hengst, who took down Mitchell Corley and Alan Valdez.

The Panthers collected the first doubles point as John Mitchell Benton and Trevor McLemore posted an 8-0 win against Florida Peyssonneaux and Jaume Reig. The second LaGrange victory came from Will Thompson and Caleb Edde as the tandem triumphed 8-1 over Will Christiansen and David Bumgarner.

The team lead grew to 3-1 when Geoffrey Martin posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bumgarner in the showdown of No. 5 seeds. Trevor McLemore added a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Peyssonneaux to earn the fourth Panther point of the match.

Mittring picked up his second win of the day and tallied a team point for Brevard when he completed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Corley in singles action. However, Valdez solidified the LaGrange team win with a 6-3, 6-3 downing of Christiansen in the clash of No. 3 seeds.

Benton collected his second win of the day when he posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory versus Reig. Likewise, Thompson closed out his second win as he battled past Hengst 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4) in the clash of second seeds.

Brevard returns to the courts on March 10th when the Tornados host Covenant at 1 p.m.
