Men’s Tennis Travels to Berea

BREVARD, N.C. – In search of their first team win of the spring slate the Brevard men's tennis team travels to Berea, Ky., this weekend to clash with the Mountaineers. The match, originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24, was moved to Sunday, Feb. 25 due to impending weather in the area.

The Tornados last took the court on Feb. 16 when they faced Pfeiffer at the Brevard Tennis Center. Tom Mittring emerged with the lone win for Brevard, downing Bjorn Barwinski by scores of 6-4, 6-0. Pfeiffer completed victories in the next five singles matches as Thomas Hubble, David Weir, Raul Ruiz, Trey Speight and Kevin Garcia posted wins. Weir's 3-0 win came over Will Christiansen, who was forced to retire due to a thigh injury.

In doubles play the tandem of Mittring and Tim Hengst were edged by Thomas Hubble and Raul Ruiz by an 8-5 margin. The duo of Christiansen and Bumgarner were downed by Barwinski and Weir, 8-1. Jaume Reig and Florian Peyssonneaux endured a hard fought battle with Speight and Garcia before falling 8-6.

The match marks the season opener for Berea who finished 2-16 as a team a season ago. The Mountaineers last victory came against Johnson University on April 8, 2017, who they downed 5-4. They have dropped seven straight matches since that point.
