Masukawa Selected to NCCSIA All-State Second Team

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College men's soccer senior midfielder Matheus Masukawa has been selected to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Second Team following an impressive, record-breaking season for the Sao Paulo, Brazil native.

The NCCSIA awards All-State teams in the sports of Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball in two categories – University and College. The University Division includes NCAA DI schools across the state, while the College Division includes NCAA DII and DIII schools across North Carolina.

Masukawa led all Tornado goal scorers with seven goals alongside three assists for a total of 17 points. His seven goals and 17 points each set new NCAA-era program records for single-season goals and points scored.

Over Masukawa's three years playing at Brevard College, the midfielder tallied 12 goals and six assists for 30 points. His 12 goals and 30 points scored are both Brevard College men's soccer career NCAA-era records.

The Tornados, under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Helio "L" D'Anna, enjoyed the program's most successful regular season in Brevard's NCAA era.  The 2019 Tornados earned the first regular-season winning record (7-6-3) in the program's 11-year stretch against NCAA competition.

Brevard's seven regular-season victories tied the 2016 and 2017 Tornados for the most single-season victories in Brevard's NCAA-era. All of the Tornados' victories this season came in USA South Conference play, setting a new single-season high for most conference wins in program history.

Brevard College men's soccer was also selected for postseason play as the Tornados earned a berth into the 2019 ECAC DIII Men's Soccer Championships. The selection marked Brevard's first postseason appearance since the Tornados competed in the SAC Tournament in 2016, where Brevard knocked off nationally-ranked Wingate University, 1-0, in that conference tournament's quarterfinals.
