CHESTER, Penn. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (7-7-3) concluded its 2019 season with a 1-0 defeat to host Widener (10-8-1) in the first round of the ECAC Men's Soccer Championships on a cold Saturday afternoon in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Widener advances to the ECAC Quarterfinals after the Pride's Noah Saba scored the match's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.

Brevard College senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall recorded 13 saves in his final game in a Tornado uniform.  Hall made several spectacular saves throughout the contest to keep the contest a one-goal match.

In addition to Hall, seniors Matthew Brethen, Eric Lenhart, Xavier Mariduena, Matheus Masukawa, Jackson Riddle and Alex Tenjhay wrapped up their Brevard College soccer careers at the ECAC Championships.

The first half was a scoreless affair with Widener outshooting Brevard, 10-3 in the opening stanza.  Hall was particularly busy in the opening minutes with four of his eight first-half saves coming in the first 15 minutes of the contest.

In the second half, the Tornados found their stride beginning with an early scoring opportunity for freshman Vinicius Giannaccini three minutes into the period. BC would go on to outshoot the Pride 11-8 in the second half.

Following Widener's goal on the penalty kick, the Tornados continued their pressure and created additional scoring opportunities. However, BC was unable to find the equalizer in the final 26 minutes.

Joao Monteiro led the Tornados offensively with a game-high four shots. Giannaccini fired off a total of three shots, while Masukawa recorded two shots.  Lucas Campos and Pedro Herrera each registered shots as well.

In total, Widener outshot Brevard 18-14 to go along with a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The match was played in cold conditions, with temperatures dipping into the 30s before the final whistle.

The Tornados, under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Helio "L" D'Anna, enjoyed the program's most successful regular season in Brevard's NCAA era.  The 2019 Tornados earned the first regular-season winning record (7-6-3) in the program's 11-year stretch against NCAA competition.

Brevard's seven regular-season tied the 2016 and 2017 Tornados for the most single-season victories in Brevard's NCAA-era. All of the Tornados' victories this season came in USA South Conference play, setting a new single-season high for most conference wins in program history.
