DEMOREST, Ga. – Freshman Lucas Campos scored off a Lucca Silvani throw-in within the final 30 seconds of regulation as the Brevard College Tornados men's soccer team (0-3-1, 0-0-1 USAS) earned a hard-fought draw in its USA South Conference opener against the host Piedmont College Lions (2-1-1, 1-0-1 USAS) by a final score of 2-2 after 110 minutes of play at the Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest, Ga.

Senior defender Marquis Dickerson tallied his first-career goal in the seventh minute to give the Tornados the early advantage. Campos' first-career goal was serviced by the first-career assist Silvani, a freshman from Campanas, Brazil, who placed a throw-in in a perfect position for the equalizer.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall (0-3-1) stopped six shots in the 110 minutes of action.

Brevard held a 24-16 shooting advantage on the evening, outshooting the Lions in the first half, first overtime, and second overtime while tying Piedmont, 6-6 on shots in the second half. Vinicius Giannaccini led all Tornados with six shots (2 shots-on-goal), while Campos and Joao Monteiro each shot the ball three times. Dickerson, JP Suarti, Pedro Herrera, and Matheus Masukawa each took two shots on the evening.

Both sides were awarded eight corner kicks, while the Lions stopped one more shot than the Tornados (7-6). In total, nine yellow cards were issued on the night. The Tornados were shown five yellow cards to the Lions' four.

Action got started quickly for the Tornados, who scored on their first shot of the match. Dickerson's curling shot which beat Piedmont's keeper in the low right corner gave Brevard the early lead, 1-0.

Brevard got three more shots off before an unfortunate own goal by the Tornados in the 12th minute tied the match, 1-1.

Within the span of two minutes between 21:40-23:13, Herrera, Monteiro, and Suarti all let shots off, two of which forced saves. From there, Piedmont mustered some offensive pressure, forcing Hall to make two saves before the half. The Tornados and Lions went into the intermission tied, 1-1.

Through the first 30-plus minutes of action in the second half, both teams traded shots with five apiece. Within that span, Piedmont earned four corner kicks to the Tornados' two. Then in the 77th minute, Piedmont's Nick Pope rebounded a wide header from Cameron Earls and placed it past Hall to give the Lions a late advantage, 2-1.

Brevard pushed on the attack from that point, but couldn't muster many offensive chances. Junior midfielder and captain Xavi Mariduena had an 89th-minute shot attempt blocked.

With time running thin in regulation, Campos was played a long throw from Silvana that bounced right to the freshman from Uberlandia, Brazil, whose shot found the back of the net to tie the contest late, 2-2. The match was then bound for golden-goal overtime.

In the first overtime period, the Tornados applied pressure on the Lions, winning a total of four corner kicks and shooting three times. Brevard nearly won the match in the 99th minute when sophomore defender David Garrett's header hit the left corner post, denying the Tornados of a golden goal winner.

Brevard outshot Piedmont, 4-3 in the second overtime period, but neither team found the back of the net. BC's Dickerson hit the post and senior Adam Spencer's header was blocked on back-to-back attempts in the 107th minute, turning Brevard's bid for victory away in the final minutes of action. Piedmont's Malamin Jallow let a shot go in the 109th minute for Piedmont's last offensive attempt, but Jallow's shot was turned away by Hall, preserving the draw.
