Cavaliers Shut Out Tornados, 1-0 in Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Men's Soccer team (0-3) fell narrowly to local foe Montreat College (2-2) by a final score of 1-0 on Saturday night. The contest marked the third-straight defeat for the Tornados by just one goal.

Brevard conceded an early 13th-minute goal to the Cavaliers which proved to be the difference in the contest, as Montreat stifled the Tornados defensively.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Hall recorded eight saves while facing a barrage of Montreat shots, as the Cavaliers outshot the Tornados 21-7 on the evening.

Montreat's Andy Del Angel produced the contest's lone goal, driving a Raphael Duarte pass into the back of the net at the 12:05 mark.

BC's Pedro Herrera fired two shots off for the Tornados, with one finding the target. In total, the Tornados had four shots-on-goal on the evening.

Brevard threatened in attack in the first 10 minutes of the match, as Herrera and Lucca Silvani produced shots that went just off goal.

After Montreat established its attack with three shots and a corner kick of its own, Del Angel's score pushed the Cavaliers to a 1-0 advantage.

Freshman Vinicius Giannaccini had a shot blast off the post, as BC's closest chance to score in the first half came up just short.

Late in the first half, Matthew Brethen's shot forced a save from Montreat keeper Kevin Gonzalez, as his effort sent the Cavaliers into the intermission clinging on to their slim 1-0 lead.

After nearly 20 minutes of play, Rami Kadri let off BC's first shot of the second half that forced a save by Montreat. Just eight minutes later, Herrera's second shot of the evening was turned away by the Montreat defense.

Senior defender Eric Lenhart produced a last-ditched effort at goal in the last five minutes but was denied by Gonzalez. The Montreat shot-stopper totaled three saves in the match.

The Tornados return to action as they play their first regular-season home contest as well as open up USA South Conference play versus the visiting Covenant Scots on Saturday, September 14 at 3 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
