Men’s Soccer Comes up Short in Hard-Fought 2-1 Decision to Greensboro

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College goalkeeper Patrick Hall surpassed the century mark, recording his 100th save of the 2018 season in a hard-fought 2-1 defeat for the BC Men's Soccer team to the Greensboro Pride (10-2, 7-1).

Brevard (3-11, 2-8) hung around for the entirety of the match. The Tornados matched Greensboro's physicality and toughness step for step.

Fouls were aplenty in the match, as both squads were called for 14 infractions each. Brevard racked up four yellow cards, three of which in the first half. Greensboro's Jacob Owens was the only member of the Pride to receive a card.

Both sides went into the intermission tied 0-0. Greensboro held the halftime shooting advantage (8-5) while Hall saved three shots.

In the 56th minute, Greensboro forward Jordy Briceno sent a shot toward Hall's direction, only for Hall to rack up his 100th save of 2018. Hall finished the match with eight saves and currently has saved 104 shots in 2018, which leads the USA South Conference.

Greensboro broke through in the 78th minute, as Carlos Barragan drove home the cross from William Curry for the game's first goal.

However, Brevard answered back promptly. Jackson Riddle headed home his second goal of 2018 off of a perfectly placed corner kick from Brock Tuttle. This 81st-minute equalizer left both teams all square with just over nine minutes left to play.

The Pride would regain the lead in the 88thminute, as Briceno found the back of the net after passes from William Curry and Gerardo Peraza. This goal proved to be the difference, giving the USA South East division-leading Pride the 2-1 victory over Brevard.

The Tornados return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 as they travel to Montgomery, Ala. for a mid-afternoon bout with the Huntingdon Hawks.
