BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Men's Soccer team (1-7-0, 0-4-0) dropped a tightly contested match to the William Peace Pacers (6-1-2, 5-0) by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Field.
Head Coach Bob Winch's squad were on the attack early in this match. In the third minute, Matheus Masukawa drew a penalty in the center of the box to set up a penalty kick attempt. Masukawa converted this attempt, marking his second goal of the season.
In the 27th minute, the Pacers found the back of the net off the foot of Ivan Ponce. This equalizer was set up by a perfectly placed pass by Oscar Aguirre.
The score was deadlocked at 1-1 at the intermission. William Peace took nine shots in the first stanza, while Brevard kept pace with seven.
The second half was a defensive slugfest on both sides. Goalkeeper Patrick Hall put in a solid workload, tallying eight of his 11 total saves in the second half.
The Pacers were able to break the tie in the 64th minute, as Alfredo Martinez drove home the pass from Ivan Ponce. This goal proved to be the game-winning strike, as Brevard was only able to muster two shot attempts in the second half.
The Brevard College Tornados Men's Soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 2 as they travel to Maryville, Tenn. to face the Maryville Scots in yet another USA South Conference test.
