Brevard, N.C. – Brevard College (1-6-0, 0-3-0) dropped a tight contest to Methodist (4-2-0, 1-0-0) on Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field in a USA South Conference match up.
Jackson Riddle scored his first career goal as a member of the Brevard Tornados in the 48th minute on an assist by Matheus Masukawa for BC's lone goal.
Following a one-hour lightning delay at the start of the match, Methodist scored two goals (13th min, 29th min) in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Brevard came back with a flurry to start the second half and quickly created a scoring opportunity less than three minutes into the stanza. On a corner kick, Riddle promptly found the back of the net off the assist from Masukawa to cut the deficit to one goal.
The Tornado defense and goalkeeper Patrick Hall held firm throughout the second half, shutting out the Monarchs in the period.
However, the Tornados were unable to produce the equalizer on offense despite several strong opportunities in the final minutes.
For the match, Methodist out-shot Brevard 12-8. Six of the eight shot by Tornados came in the second half, while the Monarchs managed just two shots in the final period.
Hall, the reigning USA South Defensive Player of the Week, finished the match with six saves, five of which came in the first half.
The Brevard College Men's Soccer team returns to action with another home USA South Conference match on Saturday at 11 a.m. vs. William Peace at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
