West Point, Ga. – The Tornados Men's Soccer team kicked off their 2018 campaign in West Point, Ga. As they took on the NAIA's Point University Sky Hawks. The Sky Hawks kept Brevard in check throughout the night, holding the Tornados to only two shot attempts the entire night, the first of which coming by sophomore Jose Sanchez with 1:44 remaining in the first period. Brevard's freshman Juan Martin Ycaza's attempt 8 minutes into the second period was blocked by Point defender Cesar Lazarini. This attempt proved to be the last for the Tornados, as Point held them in check for the remainder of the match.
Point kept applying the pressure throughout the contest, as the Sky Hawks posted 21 goals, 9 of which on goal and 5 reaching the back of the net for a 5-0 final score. Point came out of the gate firing, as three of their goals came in the first half. Point's final goal of the first half came with only 32 seconds left. Point had a two-goal performance by Midfielder Noah Elam, who tied for the team lead with four shot attempts on the day. Midfielder Koen Vos connected on a penalty kick as a result of a foul on Justin Queen.
Brevard starting goalkeeper Patrick Hall came away with four saves despite allowing five goals. His career record moves to 4-3.
Alex Tenjhay received the first yellow card for the Tornados on the 2018 campaign. This was the first yellow card that Tenjhay has received in his collegiate career.
The Tornados return home for the first time in 2018 as they take on the NAIA's Montreat Cavaliers. Fans are encouraged to come, as students will be making their own candy bags in honor of the 2018 season getting underway.
