Men’s Soccer Preseason Preview: Tornados tabbed 2nd in USA South West Division poll

Brevard, NC – The USA South announced today the release of their preseason coaches' poll, selecting Brevard College to finish 2nd in the west division. The Tornados are coming off of a 7-8 campaign, and despite being ineligible for a conference championship last season due to NCAA reclassification, enjoyed a 3-2 record against west division opponents a year ago (6-5 in USA South competition overall). 2018 marks the first year that the Brevard men's soccer program will be eligible for a regular season conference title in their new home, the USA South. The Tornados received a first-place vote in the west division coaches' poll, finishing with 26 points.

Maryville College was named the preseason favorites for the 2018 campaign. The Scots garnered 36 points and six first-place votes in the preseason coaches' poll. Maryville is coming off their 2nd straight USA South regular season title and an overall record of 16-3-1. Covenant College received 26 points in the coaches' poll, tying Brevard for 2nd place in the west division. Rounding out the west division are Piedmont (4th), LaGrange (5th), Huntingdon (6th), and Berea (7th). N.C. Wesleyan highlighted the USA South's east division predictions, capturing four first-place votes and 24 points overall. The Battling Bishops enjoyed a USA South tournament championship last season, finishing with a 15-6 overall record and a bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Tornados start their chase toward the USA South regular season crown with an exhibition match taking place August 27th at Mars Hill. The regular season begins with a trip to Point University on September 1st. The conference slate begins on Saturday, Sept. 8th as the Tornados travel to Berea College.
