Brevard falls short of beating Shaw

BREVARD, N.C.- Brevard men's soccer was downed by Shaw on a rainy Saturday afternoon, as the Bears scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to earn the win.

Senior goalkeeper Daniel Taylor got the start in goal, as he recorded one save while allowing one goal in the first half. On offense for the Tornados, Xavier Mariduena and Hiroki Noguchi each recorded a goal in the match.

The first goal of the match came in the 38th minute, as Shaw's Eric Huete found the back of the net off an assist from Landon Jacobsen.

Three minutes later, Brevard tied the match as Mariduena drilled a shot from outside the box that went over the goalkeeper's head.

The first half ended with Shaw leading the shot differential (5-4), while both goalkeepers recorded one save.

Brevard broke the tie in the 61st minute, as Noguchi scored a goal from inside the box off an assist from Omar Jimenez to take the lead.

In the 83rd minute Huete tied the match with his second goal on the day. Huete finished the match with three total shots, with two shots on goal.

Thilo Wilke scored a goal to take the lead in the 87th minute off a deflected ball from goalkeeper Patrick Hall to make the score 3-2.

Brevard closes their season 7-8, but finished the 2017 winning five of their last seven matches.
