Late goal lifts Brevard past Ferrum

BREVARD, N.C.- After 87 minutes of scoreless action, Adam Spencer found the back of the net in the net in the final stages of the match to give Brevard the 1-0 victory over Ferrum Saturday afternoon.

The win improves Brevard's record to 5-7 on the season and the team has now won three out of their past four matches. This was also the third time the Tornados have shut out their opponent in 2017.

Brevard dominated the shot differential in the match, recording eight shots to just four shots from Ferrum (8-7-1) in the first half. In the second half, Brevard was only able to tally five shots, but limited the Panthers to just one. The Tornados also recorded nine corner kicks, while Ferrum did not have any.

In the first half Hiroki Noguchi and Jesse Omezi both recorded shots on goal, but were unable to score as Ferrum goalkeeper Jason Anstice recorded three saves in the first frame.

The second half did not have another shot on goal until the 71st minute, Anstice notched another save, this time on a shot from Eric Lenhart. Less than a minute later, Ty Stubbs was also denied by Anstice.

With the game clock winding down Omezi found Spencer on a cross pass, and Spencer was able to buried the shot from the right side of the net to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead in the 88th minute.

Ferrum could not get another shot off in regulation, as Brevard was able to secure the victory without allowing a shot in the final 13 minutes of the match.

Brevard will return to action tomorrow against Averett at 2:30 p.m. at Ives-Lemel field.
