Brevard men's soccer earns first victory, beats Huntingdon 4-1

BREVARD, N.C.- Three second-half goals by the Tornados powered Brevard to a decisive 4-1 victory over Huntingdon.

Jorge Jiminez tallied a hat-trick in Saturday's match, along with another goal from senior Ty Stubbs.

The game's scoring began in the seventh minute of the match, when Jiminez found the net from an assist by Austin Wolfe.

In the 31st minute, the Hawks tied up the game with a goal from Mac Puller.

Heading into the half all tied up, Brevard head coach Bob Winch said the halftime message was to keep attacking the goal.

"I told them to keep moving the ball," said Winch. "We held it a little too long in the first half. I was very happy the team scored some good goals in the second half."

In the 60th minute, Jiminez broke the tie on a quick-strike goal off an assist from Jesse Omezi

Jiminez still was not done on offense, as he scored his third goal of the match in the 82nd minute to make the score 3-1.

Less than a minute later, Stubbs found the back of the net after a mad scramble to the ball to put the game out of reach.

Winch said the team still has to work hard in practice next week, but he was pleased with the outcome.

"You always have things to work on, even in wins," Winch added. "We didn't find the forwards quick enough, but I'm happy for them. They have been working hard since preseason and to get the first conference win, I'm happy for them," says Winch.

Brevard (1-1-0) will go on the road to Demorest, Ga. to take on Piedmont College on September 11th.
