BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Men's Lacrosse team (6-7, 3-4 USAS) honored its 10 seniors on Saturday afternoon in its season-finale against the Huntingdon Hawks (11-6, 7-0 USAS) at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
BC's senior class of Jackson McKaig, Huntley Davis, Chris Efenecy, Sean Pratt, Hewitt Farr, Jack Shade, Harrison Roberts, Raheem Brown, Paxton Brown, and Peyton Mooney was honored at the halftime ceremony.
In a tight match that came down to the final quarter, the Hawks of Huntingdon College secured the USA South Men's Lacrosse Regular Season Championship after defeating the Tornados, 13-6.
From midway through the third quarter until the end of the fourth quarter, Huntingdon scored eight-straight goals to take the lead away from Brevard and secure the 13-6 victory.
McKaig closed out his career with the Tornados by scoring three goals along with an assist. Seniors Farr and Shade tallied a goal and an assist each, while sophomore Sam Duffie added a goal and an assist for the Tornados.
Efenecy and Pratt each grabbed a ground ball in their final contest as a Tornado, while Raheem Brown tallied two ground balls. Paxton Brown and Davis also closed out their careers with Brevard.
Mooney (4-7) closed out his career with Brevard College by recording seven saves while snatching three ground balls. Roberts closed his BC career out by winning eight faceoffs for the Tornados on Saturday afternoon.
Robert Kokal, the defending USA South Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, led BC's defensive efforts by grabbing a team-high seven ground balls while causing three turnovers.
Both sides found success on clear attempts, as Huntingdon was 22-for-25 while Brevard was 21-for-24. Huntingdon found its edge in man-up situations, going a perfect 2-for-2 compared to Brevard's 1-for3.
The Tornados and Hawks went back and forth with each other through the first half, trading scores in a tightly-contested matchup.
After the two teams traded three goals with each other through the first quarter, BC's Farr sent a McKaig pass into the back of the net as time expired to give BC a slim, 4-3 advantage at the end of the first period of play.
The Hawks scored two goals in the second quarter compared to a lone BC goal by McKaig as Saturday's match headed into halftime tied up, 5-5.
Brevard's Shade scored just 56 seconds into the third quarter to give Brevard a brief, 6-5 lead. Huntingdon answered back with two goals of its own in the third stanza, retaking the lead 7-6.
The Hawks went on to score six more goals unanswered in the fourth quarter, locking up the USA South Regular Season title with a 13-6 triumph.
Brevard finishes the 2019 season with six wins, including three victories in conference play.
