Brevard Falls to Hood College in Maryland, 16-8

FREDERICK, Md. - The Brevard College Tornados Men's Lacrosse Team (2-2) fell in non-conference action to Hood College (1-0) on Saturday afternoon. 

The Tornados' attack was led by seniors Jackson McKaig, Hewitt Farr, and Jack Shade

McKaig racked up three goals and an assist to lead BC, while Farr grew his USA South-leading goal total to 19 with two goals in addition to dishing out two assists. Shade tallied two goals on four total shots. 

Senior goalkeeper Peyton Mooney recorded 17 saves on 33 shots faced, while Evan Francois and Robert Kokal each snagged four ground balls. 

Hood attacker Bentley LeBarron led the way for the Blazers, firing in four goals on seven shots-on-goal. Jason Jaworski and Grayson Zubradt tacked on three goals each in the Blazers' 16-goal effort. 

Hood College doubled BC's shot total on the afternoon, firing 58 shots compared to Brevard's 29. The Blazers fired 33 shots-on-goal, testing Brevard's defense often. 

The Blazers claimed 19 faceoffs to the Tornados' seven. Hood converted four of its eight man-up chances, compared to BC's lone man-up conversion on 10 chances. 

The Blazers got on the board first, as Kyle Scott scored unassisted just 28 seconds into the contest. Hood followed that with three more goals to hold a 4-0 advantage with 11:30 left in the first quarter. 

The Tornados struck back with two goals of their own, as McKaig scored back-to-back, including BC's lone man-up goal, to cut Hood's lead to 4-2 with 6:08 left in the first quarter. 

Hood pulled away with six unanswered goals to extend its advantage to 10-2 with 12:40 left in the second period. Both sides went nine-plus minutes without a goal before Brevard's Farr put one in the back of the net with 3:19 remaining in the first half. Hood carries a 10-3 lead into the break. 

Both sides traded goals to begin the second half, as Sean Pratt drove home Farr's pass to make the score 11-4 in favor of the hosts. Shade ended the third quarter with an unassisted goal, cutting Hood's lead to 13-5 as the match entered its final stanza. 

McKaig, Farr, and Shade all found the back of the net in the final period, in which each side scored three goals. Hood claimed the non-conference victory over the visiting Tornados, 16-8. 

Brevard will return to action next Saturday, March 2 as it opens USA South play against Pfeiffer University at 5 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Field.
