Brevard College Men’s Lacrosse Dedicating 2019 Season to Special Cause

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Men's Lacrosse team is dedicating its entire 2019 season to the memory of Christine Kokal and all who are affected by cancer through a variety of programs.  Christine Kokal, the mother of BC Men's Lacrosse senior captain Robert Kokal, passed away last Fall to cancer.

All season, the Tornados will be wearing decals in memory of Christine Kokal and in support of those affected by cancer.  The decals with the initials "CK" are affixed to the back of every player's helmet just above their uniform numbers.

On Saturday, March 30 for the Brevard vs. Greensboro game (6 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field), the BC Men's Lacrosse team is dedicating the game to HEADstrong Awareness to further grow awareness and raise funds for the cause.  To contribute to the Tornados' pledge to the HEADstrong Foundation, go to https://pledge.headstrong.org/team/202614

The Brevard College Men's Lacrosse team earlier this season participated in the HEADstrong Foundation's Lacrosse Mustache Madness.  Members of the BC Men's Lacrosse team grew mustaches to help raise funds for families affected by cancer.  The national online fundraising campaign, founded in 2009, has raised over $1,000,000 with over 8,000 collegiate student-athletes participating.  The HEADstrong Foundation is a national non-profit with the mission of improving the quality of life for those affected by cancer.  For more information, go to www.headstrong.org

"I think a lot of our players have known someone that has been affected by cancer," said Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Jim Fritz.  "They have that close relationship with Bobby (Robert Kokal) and really wanted to do something significant and that's why we are wearing the sticker on the helmets.  It's been something that the players have been totally supportive of and they are doing great work in the community with the HEADstrong Foundation and the Lace Up With LAX program."

In addition to the cancer awareness programs, the Brevard College Men's Lacrosse team will be participating in another significant charitable initiative this Spring.  The Brevard vs. Huntingdon Men's Lacrosse game on April 20 will be dedicated to Lace Up with LAX, a national non-profit dedicated to "ending homelessness one step at a time".  At the event, the public will be encouraged to bring pairs of new, unworn children's shoes for donation.  For more information on Lace Up with LAX, go to www.laceupwithlax.org
