Streaks Collide in Pfeiffer, Brevard Showdown

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's lacrosse team wraps up the 2018 season on Saturday when it heads to Pfeiffer for a 7 p.m. clash with the Falcons.

The Tornados, who enter the game 9-2, are putting their program record six-game winning streak on the line. The streak began on March 3 against Methodist and in that span Brevard has outscored its opponents 76-40, with Ferrum (March 10) being the only team to reach double figure scoring in a game in that span.

The Tornados last took the field on March 31 against Averett, which also served as Senior Day for four members of the 2018 senior class. Brevard established the program record for wins in a season (nine) and finished with a perfect mark at home (8-0) with a 19-2 victory over the Cougars.

In that game the Tornados were led offensively by the duo of Kyle Hunziker and Jackson McKaig, who finished with five goals apiece, while Hewitt Farr added four and Sam Duffie contributed three. Duffie also emerged with six assists, closely followed by McKaig (four) and Hunziker (three).

Defensively, Brevard received a game-high 15 ground balls from Robert Kokal. The Brevard goalkeeper tandem of Xavier Holmes-Copeland (three saves) and Peyton Mooney (four) made seven stops, with Holmes-Copeland moving his mark to 9-2-0 on the slate.

Pfeiffer (9-3) also comes into the game on a six-game winning streak. The Falcons began their streak with a 10-8 win over Piedmont and most recently took the field against Greensboro (April 7), emerging with a 20-12 triumph over The Pride.

Blade Garlow leads the way for Pfeiffer with 58 goals and 80 points on the season. Teammate Jared Nelson leads the way in assists with 54, while Jacob Michel has taken over in goal and made 67 saves (50.8 save percentage). Michael is 5-1 on the season in goal.
