Tornado Men’s Lacrosse Makes Weekend Trip to Greensboro

BREVARD, N.C. – After establishing a program-record for most consecutive wins in a 16-9 victory over William Peace on Saturday, March 17, the Brevard men's lacrosse team returns to the road this weekend to square off against Greensboro on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Tornados (7-2), who have outscored their opponents 45-31 during their current four-game winning streak, are 1-2 away from Ives-Lemel Field this season. The lone win came at Ferrum on March 10 when Brevard posted an 11-10 victory.

In the most recent win over the Pacers, Jackson McKaig netted a game-high seven goals and Sam Duffie added a season-high four goals as Brevard maintained its perfect 6-0 record at Ives-Lemel Field. McKaig, who has topped five goals on three occasions in 2018, finished with nine points as he handed out two assists. Duffie was responsible for seven points, after dishing out three assists, setting his single-game high in goals along the way.

The Tornados also received two goals each from Kyle Hunziker and Hewitt Farr as they scored at least 15 goals for the fourth time this season. Hunziker tied Duffie for the most assists (three), while Robert Kokal (13 ground balls) and Xzavier Holmes-Copeland (12 saves) anchored Brevard's defensive effort.

Brevard ended the game with a 38-34 edge in shots, making 12 in the first period, and a 42-26 advantage in ground balls. The Tornados also owned the advantage in faceoffs won (19-10).

The Pride (7-5) have suffered setbacks in their last two outings against Huntingdon (5-4) and Methodist (10-7), but own a 5-3 mark at home.

One of Greensboro's major strengths this season has been establishing an early advantage, outscoring their opponents 28-18 in the first period. Ryan Cole, with 22 goals and 10 assists (56 points), leads five Pride players in double figure goals on the season. Victor Mehrtens (12 assists, 12 goals) tops the unit in most assists.

Stephen Tanner owns a 6-5 mark in net for Greensboro this season, starting all 12 matches. In 725 minutes, Tanner has made 102 saves (50.2 save pct.) in 377 shots faced.
