McKaig Leads Brevard Past Emmanuel, 18-5

BREVARD, N.C. – Jackson McKaig netted eight goals while Kyle Hunziker added four and Hewitt Farr emerged with three goals as Brevard dominated the scoreboard in an 18-5 victory over Emmanuel in men's lacrosse action at Ives-Lemel Field on Wednesday afternoon.

McKaig capped off the game with 12 points as he handed out four assists to go along with his game-high eight goals. Hunziker closely followed with eight points and was responsible for four assists and four goals.

Farr, who closed with three points on the afternoon, and David Buono (one goal, one assist) also had multiple points for the Tornados, who moved to 2-1 on the season with the win. Brevard finished with 47 shots on the contest.

Brevard was led in goal by the combination of Xza Holmes-Copeland (six saves) and Peyton Mooney (three saves), with Holmes-Copeland notching the victory. The Tornados were successful on 47 ground balls with Robert Kokal grabbing eight and McKaig scooping up seven.

Two goals each from McKaig and Farr allowed Brevard to assume a 5-0 lead by the 3:43 mark of the opening period. Emmanuel got itself on the board with a strike by Tyler Machado as the Tornados owned a 5-1 lead at the close of the frame.

Machado again found the back of the net for the Lions (0-1), slicing the Brevard lead to three less than one minute into the second. McKaig teamed with Jack Shade to get the Tornado offense back on track as he netted back-to-back goals, resulting in a 7-2 Brevard advantage.

Alex Stull drove home an Emmanuel goal, but strikes by McKaig, Kokal and Sam Duffie in succession stretched the Tornados' lead to 10-3. The two teams each added one goal before the close of the second as Brevard took an 11-4 lead into the intermission.

McKaig netted the lone goal of the third, driving home a pass from Hunziker for the nine-point advantage.

Hunziker scored the first two Tornado goals of the fourth with Emmanuel's Justin Parker netting the only Lions strike of the frame at the 7:11 mark. McKaig found the back of the net on two more occasions, stretching the lead to 16-5 with just over two minutes left. Hunziker closed out scoring in the contest as he scored a pair of goals to complete the 13-point win.

Brevard now focuses on Randolph, who pays a visit to Ives-Lemel Field on Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
