McAndrew, Fisher Among Top 10 at Tennessee River Rumble

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Two members of the Brevard men's golf team, Calum McAndrew and Austin Fisher, are locked in a three-way tie for eighth after the first round of the Tennessee River Rumble on Tuesday, April 3rd. Their performances helped the Tornados place third as a team with a 15-over-par, three shots behind King University (+12), who is the leader in the clubhouse, and one shot shy of Wingate (+14).

The tandem of McAndrew and Fisher finished the opening with a two-over-par and sit three shots off the pace set by Liam Purslowe (Hillsdale College). McAndrew began his day with a bogey and followed with three straight pars. He followed with back-to-back birdies at five and six, moving to one under, as he closed the front nine with three pars.

McAndrew moved to even par with a bogey at 10 and came carded another bogey at 12, moving to two-over-par. He closed out the final five holes with four pars, a bogey and his second bogey of the round at 18 to finish with a 74.

Fisher began his day with four pars and a birdie, which came at two, in the first five holes. He regained his rhythm at seven, following a bogey at six, and closed the front nine with two pars and a birdie at nine.

Consecutive bogeys to open the back nine were quickly followed by a birdie at 12 and a par at 13. Fisher posted two more bogeys at 14 and 16, but closed out the day with pars at 17 and 18 to finish with a 74.

The Tornados' Craig Stephen sits in third at five-over-par after a first round 77. Stephen opened his day with a par, but consecutive birdies at the second and third hole quickly moved him to two-under-par. Three pars over along with three bogeys over next six holes allowed him to make the turn at one-under-par.

Stephen's struggles carried over into the back nine as two birdies were offset by four bogeys, two double bogeys as he was six-over-par.

Declan Addison, who finished off a solid day for the Tornados, managed to finish in a nine-way tie for 33rd. Addison's day began with eight pars and one bogey on the front nine, while the back nine included seven pars, a double bogey (10th) and a triple bogey at the 16th hole.

Hugo Herrera completed the Brevard scorecard with an 18-over-par score of 90. Herrera's round was peppered with eight pars, six bogeys, two double bogeys and a triple bogey. His most difficult hole of the day was at 16, where he finished with a bogey five.
