Tornados Take Part in Richard Rendleman Invitational

BREVARD, N.C. – After a pair of top five finishes at the Mars Hill Invitational last week, the Brevard men's golf team returns to the links on Monday to participate in the Richard Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba.

The two-day event, which begins on Monday, March 5, will be held at the Country Club of Salisbury. It is a par 71 course that is 6,690 yards in length.

The Tornados are looking to carry over momentum established during the Mars Hill Invitational that concluded on Tuesday, Feb. 27th at the Broadmoor Golf Links. Austin Fisher finished in second, Calum McAndrew tied for third while women's golfer Kelsie Rhyne finished fifth.

Fisher wrapped up the two-day event with scores of 76 and 71 (147), finishing three shots off the pace set by Mars Hill's Harry Butler. Butler took home the individual crown with an even score of 144 after carding 73 and 71.

McAndrew was six shots back of the leader and three shy of his teammate with a two-day score of 150. After struggling with a 78 on the opening day of competition, which had him in ninth, McAndrew rebounded to shoot an even par 72 on the Tuesday to finish in a four-way tie for third alongside Logan Holbrook (Capital), Cory Sealander (Pfeiffer) and Hunter Dillard (Pfeiffer).

Brevard men's squad wrapped up the event in third, tallying a combined score of 615 (322-293, +29). Senior Craig Stephen opened the fall slate tied for 17th by shaving 10 strokes off his opening round 84 to finish with a 158 (84-74; +14).

Teammates Thomas Purcell, who closed with a 160 (84-76; +16) and Declan Addison (169—88-81; +25) completed the team scorecard. Brevard's Hugo Herrera, competing unattached, finished the event in a five-way tie for 19th as he tallied a 159 (85-74; +15).
