Huntingdon vs Brevard Highlights

BREVARD, N.C. - A second half ignited by 51 points propelled the Huntingdon Hawks (7-6, 4-2 USAS) to a commanding 87-64 victory over the Brevard College Tornados Men's Basketball team (4-9, 1-5 USAS) in conference action at the Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
The defeat marks the first loss of the season for Brevard in the confines of the Bosh, with the Tornados making their first home appearance since a 73-70 victory over Averett University on December 7, 2018.
For the second-straight contest, both Levi Lamb and Messiah Pankey reached double-digit scoring figures.
Lamb led all BC scorers with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-4 from long distance. The junior forward from Atlanta, Ga. swatted two blocks and grabbed two boards to round out his performance.
Pankey, making his third straight start for the Tornados, enjoyed a solid 14-point outing on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting, including two 3-pointers hit back-to-back to open the game.
Jakob Bergen stuffed the stat sheet early in the game, as the junior forward tallied seven points in the first half dished out a game-high five assists, grabbed two boards, swatted two blocks, and forced two steals.
The Hawks were led by four double-digit scorers in a well-balanced attack that saw 15 different players see action on Wednesday.
Brevard came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, opening the game on an electric 11-2 scoring run before the first media timeout. Pankey hit two long-range shots, while Demari Hopper tallied five points during this four-plus minute stretch. This lead would swell to a game-high 15-2 advantage for the Tornados with 12:58 left in the first half, as Brevard looked in complete control.
Huntingdon established its footing after the second media timeout, as the Hawks strung together a 13-4 scoring run to tie things up at 24-24 with 6:39 left in the first half. Both sides endured six tight minutes of basketball to close out the first half, with the Hawks securing their first lead of the game with a Kyante Pines 3-pointer in the final seconds to give Huntingdon a 36-35 halftime lead.
Although both sides battled tight through the first media timeout of the second half, the Hawks soon found their rhythm and quickly put the game out of reach for the shorthanded Tornados. Huntingdon put together a remarkable 16-2 scoring run to extend its lead to double-digits for the first time on the evening. The Hawks followed that run up with a 16-0 run to extend their lead to a game-high 25-point lead, 72-57, with 8:24 remaining in the contest. From that juncture, both sides went through their rotations as the Hawks prevailed 87-64 in USA South Conference play.
The Tornados will look to get back in the win column as visiting Pfeiffer University (6-6, 1-4 USAS) makes the trip to the mountains of Western North Carolina for a Friday night prime time tip-off at 7:30 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
