Hot-Shooting Runnin’ Bulldogs Supplant Tornados in Exhibition Matchup

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Men's Basketball team (4-5, 1-2 USAS) played its final exhibition contest of the 2018-19 season on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a score of 106-29 to the NCAA DI's Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (9-5) at the Paul Porter Arena on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.

The contest was Brevard's second exhibition tune-up, which will not affect their overall record or team and individual statistics.

Freshman Malon Herron-Cuthbertson tallied eight points on 2-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Sophomore guard Demari Hopper contributed seven points to Brevard's efforts, all by way of a perfect 7-of-7 mark from the free throw line. 

Gardner-Webb was led by way of five double-digit scorers. DJ Laster (18 points), David Efianayi (17 points), Jose Perez (17 points), Eric Jamison (16 points), and Brandon Miller (10 points) all reached the double-digit scoring mark in the contest. Efianayi stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high seven rebounds and six assists.

The Runnin' Bulldogs, who are now winners of seven-straight contests, took the lead with 19:32 left in the first period and held the advantage throughout the entirety of the contest.

Gardner-Webb opened the second half on a 20-0 scoring run which was broken up by a Herron-Cuthbertson 3-pointer.

The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 38-of-54 from the field (70.4%), which included a 9-of-14 mark from deep (64.3%).

Gardner-Webb converted 20 Brevard turnovers into 35 points-off-turnovers. The Runnin' Bulldogs outrebounded the Tornados by a 48-18 margin and scored 58 points in the paint.

Brevard College will return to regular season action on December 31 for a New Year's Eve showdown in Montreat, N.C. against mountain foe Montreat College (8-2) at 2 p.m.
