Brevard Men’s Basketball Drops Exhibition Contest to South Carolina State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Brevard College Men's Basketball team traveled to the campus of NCAA DI member institution South Carolina State (1-0) for an exhibition contest at the S-H-M Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

The Bulldogs dropped the Tornados by a final score of 99-51 behind an aggressive defensive performance.

SC State forced BC into 26 total turnovers on the night, which it converted into 41 points off turnovers.

The Bulldogs, who utilized a press defense for most of the contest, came away with11 steals on the night.

SC State used a 23-4 first-half run to propel itself to victory. The Bulldogs were playing in their first game of the regular season.

It proved to be a tale of two halves for the BC offensive attack. Brevard improved its shooting percentage by 28 points in the second half, as the Tornados' field goal percentage improved from 27% in the first stanza to 55% in the second for a game total of 41% from the floor.

Sophomore forward Cannon Lamb led the way for the BC offense, shooting 5-10 from the floor (50%), which was good enough for a team-high 10 points.

Junior guard Qadhafi Turner helped the Tornados in many facets of the contest. Turner tallied eight points alongside three rebounds and a team-high three assists. He also came away with a team-high three steals to aid the BC defense.

Freshman guard Malon Herron-Cuthbertson led the Tornado bench in scoring, coming away with nine points, all by way of the three-point shot. Herron-Cuthbertson fired 60% from the three-point line (3-5), seeing his first action as a BC Tornado

The Tornados drew a total of 19 fouls in Tuesday's contest, which included 10 second half fouls drawn. BC converted 10-18 (55.6%) of its attempts from the charity stripe.

BC Tornados Men's Basketball will head to Toccoa, Ga. to open its 2018-19 regular season slate against the NAIA's Toccoa Falls College. The action is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
