USA South Releases Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll

BREVARD, N.C. – The USA South Conference announced on Wednesday the release of the 2018-19 Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll. Brevard College was selected to finish seventh in the USA South West Division, garnering nine points in the poll.

The 2018-19 season marks the first season that the BC Tornados Men's Basketball team are eligible for distinctions such as all-conference, player of the week, and a regular season championship. The Tornados won't be able to compete in the USA South Conference tournament due to NCAA reclassification, however, the Tornados are able to compete in the ECAC postseason, if selected.

Maryville sits as the preseason USA South West Division favorites, tallying 36 total points and six first-place votes. The Scots earned some national recognition as well, as they were recently ranked 22nd in the D3hoops.com national preseason poll.

LaGrange College grabbed 28 points and the final remaining first-place vote to rank second. Placing in a third-place tie in the poll with 22 points were Covenant College and Piedmont College. Huntingdon College, Berea College, and Brevard College rounded out the poll, respectively.

Head Coach Lee Burgess enters his seventh year at the helm of Tornados Men's Basketball. BC finished with a 4-18 mark in 2017-18. The season was highlighted by a 79-78 home victory against eventual USA South Tournament Champion Maryville. Three of Brevard's four victories came in the friendly confines of Boshamer Gymnasium.

The Tornados open their regular season with a trip to Toccoa Falls on Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. Brevard will begin their home slate on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 against Bob Jones University.

Tornado Tip-off Set for Monday, October 29 at 9 p.m.:  The annual Tornado Tip-off event has been announced for Monday, Oct 29 at 9 p.m. at Boshamer Gymnasium. Fans are encouraged to "Pack the Bosh" in support of the 2018-19 Men's and Women's Basketball teams.
