Full 2018-19 Men's Basketball Schedule
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Men's Basketball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign. Head Coach Lee Burgess will kick off his seventh season at the helm of Tornados Men's Basketball with a trip to Orangeburg, S.C. on Tuesday, November 6 for an exhibition bout with the NCAA Division I South Carolina State Bulldogs.
Brevard will entertain two other NCAA DI opponents in 2018-19. The Tornados will make the short trip to Spartanburg, S.C. for a matchup with USC Upstate on Saturday, November 10, and will visit Gardner-Webb for a mid-season exhibition tune-up with the Runnin' Bulldogs on Wednesday, December 19.
"We are looking forward to the season," stated Coach Burgess after the schedule release. "After going through a USA South schedule last year, we know that we play in a very competitively balanced league, so our attention to detail has to be very high. Our guys have been doing things on their own to get ready for the season, but everyone around the program is very excited for October 15 to get here so we can get going full swing."
The Tornados will open up the home slate on Saturday, November 10 with a game against Bob Jones University, marking the first time the two schools have competed against each other in Men's Basketball since Brevard joined the NCAA level of competition in 2006.
The non-conference slate continues, as the Tornados will take part in the Lon Varnell Classic on Friday & Saturday, November 16-17 hosted by Sewanee University in Sewanee, Tenn. Brevard will square off with Berry College on the 16th before playing the host school Sewanee on the 17th.
"Our schedule is a challenging one," added Burgess. "We will get on the court with three NCAA Division I schools, and we will also play in the Lon Varnell Classic at Sewanee. Our conference schedule will be tough because there is not a lot of separation between the teams in our league. We are looking forward to our conference schedule, and continuing to build rivalries and familiarity with our league opponents."
Brevard will also take part in a home-and-away series with the Eagles of Toccoa Falls. The Tornados will travel to Toccoa, Ga. on Friday, November 9 before welcoming the Eagles to Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 28.
Brevard's USA South Conference slate begins on the road as the Tornados pay a visit to Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday, December 1 to take on the William Peace Pacers. The Tornados hosted the Pacers last season, falling by a score of 86-72.
Lee Burgess' squad opens USA South play at home as the Tornados play host the Averett Cougars on Friday, December 7. This will be the second straight year that Averett has played in Boshamer Gymnasium, as the Cougars prevailed 77-67 last season.
Tornado Tip-off Set for Monday, October 29 at 9 p.m.: The annual Tornado Tip-off event has been announced for Monday, October 29 at 9 p.m. at Boshamer Gymnasium. Fans are encouraged to "Pack the Bosh" in support of the 2018-19 Men's and Women's Basketball teams.
