Brevard, NC – Brevard College Men's Basketball Head Coach announced the promotion of Kaylin Johnson to Associate Head Coach on Monday afternoon.  Johnson has served as the assistant coach for the Tornados Basketball program for the past six years.

"Kaylin has a hand in every facet of our program," said Coach Burgess.  "His responsibilities have grown over time, and having the title of Associate Head Coach fits the level of responsibility that he carries."

Johnson has served as an integral member of the men's basketball program. In addition to assisting with on the floor coaching, he also contributes with recruiting, scouting, team travel and fund raising. He also runs the Tornados JV program.

"Kaylin has been an extremely valuable asset to our program over the last six years," said Coach Burgess. His work ethic and acumen have made this promotion long overdue."

In his time with the Tornados, Johnson has helped head coach Lee Burgess turn the Tornados into a consistent contender for postseason play. Brevard finished the regular season at 12-16 with a 10-12 conference mark in Johnson's third year with the program, earning a trip to the South Atlantic Conference Championship after winning the final two games of the season in dramatic fashion. He helped mentor two SAC Players of the Week and a first team all-state and all-conference selection in 2014-2015.

The two coaches have a long history together, as coach Burgess recruited Johnson as a player at Samford while an assistant with the program. After taking over at the helm of the Tornados program in 2012, Coach Burgess called upon his former player to help guide the program.  

Johnson was a four-year member of the men's basketball program at Samford. During his career he appeared in over 80 games for the Bulldogs. He received the Most Improved Player Award following the 2009-10 season.

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Johnson graduated from Samford in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Sports Administration and a minor in General Business.
