Tornados Head to Pfeiffer, Greensboro

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's basketball team opens February with a three-game road stretch, including a weekend series against Pfeiffer and Greensboro on Saturday and Sunday.

The Tornados (4-13), who are 1-6 away from Boshamer Gym this season, are embarking on their longest road stretch of the season as they play the Falcons, Pride and Maryville (Feb. 7) in succession.

JaMarquis Johnson leads the way for the Tornado offense with 236 points (13.9 ppg), hitting 81-of-181 (44.8%) from the floor and 40-of-95 (42.1%) from 3-point range. Johnson has topped the double figure mark on 12 occasions, including a single-game season-high 24 points against Covenant (Dec. 16).

Johnson is one of three Tornados to average double figures along with Stevie Williams (12.3) and Levi Lamb (11.5). Along with scoring 209 points this season, Williams has made his presence felt on the glass (73 rebounds) and assists (56). Lamb ranks second in 3-point field goals (36) and third in total field goals made (66), while leading the Brevard unit with 20 blocks.

Pfeiffer (14-3) enters the weekend winning three of their last four contests, grabbing recent victories against Methodist (106-85), N.C. Wesleyan (115-98) and William Peace (102-88). The Falcons are averaging 110.2 points per contest on the season and are hitting 50.2 percent from the floor. Pfeiffer is 8-1 at home and is hitting 372-711 (52.3%) from the field and 144-354 (40.7%) from beyond the arc.

Josh Calhoun is one of five Pfeiffer players averaging double figures on the season, scoring at a clip of 25.2 points per game. He is joined by Jevon Patton (14.9 ppg), Marcus Sawyers (14.1), Eric Ambrosio (10.2) and Brendan Jones (10.2).

Greensboro (7-11) takes a two-game winning streak into a clash with Piedmont College on Saturday, before facing Brevard. The Pride are brandishing recent triumphs over Pfeiffer (109-105) and Ferrum (99-88).

Greensboro, averaging 89 points per contest this season, is led offensively by the combination of Darus Maddox (20.2 ppg), Joseph Gatling (16.2), Kyle Riddley (14.1) and Cornelius Johnson (13.2). Maddox leads the Pride in field goals (119) and ranks second (36) in treys to Gatling, who has converted 48.
